Food addictions are real, very real. In fact, sugar causes alterations in the brain the same way that drugs do. So don’t buy into the notion that it’s all about will power.

Unfortunately, many people do not know how to beat their addiction.

So here are 6 steps to win the war:

1. Get rid of all the bad food: If you don’t have access to bad food, you are less likely to eat. In fact, changing your environment is far easier than changing your self control. Don’t rely on will power here, take the easier route.

2. Create caloric deficits with exercise, not food restriction: If you are trying to lose weight, make sure you have a heavy focus on exercise. You see, caloric deficits from exercise create less hunger than food deficits from dieting.

3. Use loose leaf teas: Loose leaf teas are excellent stimulants that can increase your mood while increasing your health. And unlike energy pills, they don’t give you energy crashes or an upset stomach. I strongly recommend loose leaf green tea here.

4. Use fake sugar: Artificial sweeteners have come a long way. In fact, it’s very hard to tell the difference between sugar and an artificial sweetener. Thus, you can use artificial sweeteners to appease your craving for that sugary taste.

5. Address negative areas in your life: More often than not, food addictions can be traced back to other negative areas in a person’s life. So make sure you do a complete analysis of your life to uncover potential areas that are draining you emotionally.

6. Don’t wait to see a professional if all else fails: Professional help is extremely effective when it comes to beating a food addiction. So make sure you see the relevant professionals if you cannot beat the addiction on your own.

A food addiction can destroy your health and your fitness goals. So take action sooner rather than later, because later never comes!
