The reason that carbon dioxide cannot really be classed as a pollutant is that it is something that we need in the atmosphere. We need it so that the plants can convert it to oxygen so that we have breathable air. Also, we need it to work as a greenhouse gas so that heat from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere and does not all escape uselessly in to space.

Of course it is because of the greenhouse effect that carbon dioxide is a dangerous gas to emit. That’s because, while the world would be too cold to inhabit without it, with it the world could become too warm.

In terms of what the consequences are going to be of global warming, that is something that nobody can really say for sure. Two of the major concerns, though, are that the polar ice caps will melt leading to rising sea levels, and that ecosystems will be affected to such an extent that we will no longer be able to grow enough food. Of the two, it is the second which should be the greater concern of course.

These, then, are the main reasons that it is important to use renewable resources that are not going to run out and that also do not emit carbon dioxide. We have many of them, including solar energy. There are also ways of heating your home with renewable energy through the use of heat pumps.

We are already using a certain amount of renewable energy of course, and one of the main ones is solar energy. The main reason for this is that it can be used in so many different ways, from large solar arrays, to individual houses to smaller items such as calculators for example.

The reason that renewable resources are not used on a larger scale is that they are not as economical as using oil yet. It’s generally more expensive to use solar energy, or other forms of renewable energy, but this is changing. Indeed, there are people who are making money with their solar panels now.
