How To Ascertain If He Or She Is Lying To You

Having the ability to tell when somebody is lying is a fantastic skill to have. Some are just naturals at this, but believe it or not, it is a relatively simple skill set to learn. In fact, it is so simple, that by the time you finish reading this article, nobody will ever be able to lie to you again. There are some general ways to tell, and some person specific ways to tell.

The universal ways are numerous, and vague. If you can, it helps to look for three or four diverse indications before you accuse the person of lying out-and-out, or make a decision not to take them at their word.

Face Touching

When individuals finger any part of their face while speaking, it can be an indication that they are lying. Typically they will feel their eyes, their nose, or their lips. These will often be fast, involuntary movements. Be careful, though, as this may also be an indication that they are just nervous. Another indication of lying is disproportionate blinking. Generally speaking, people blink more often. This occurs when they are in a position where repeated eye touching would be unacceptable. A politician giving a speech, or testifying under oath, for example.

Legs And Arm Crossing

When people cross their legs and their arms, it can be taken as a mark of being self-protective. Particularly if they are standing, with their legs crossed near the ankle, and their arms crossed in front of them. This can be an indication of lying, or it could mean that they find what they are speaking about tremendously unpleasant. You’ll need to take the circumstance into contemplation.

Eye Contact

When folks tell stories, it is very difficult to look somebody else in the eye and keep a straight face, so to speak. In this instance, a straight face is all their facial muscles comfortable, with no anxiety or twitching. The best liars can maintain eye contact while conversing right up to the moment of lying, and then even they will have to look away briefly.

Calibration

This where you calibrate on an individual basis. This can be done with workers, spouses, offspring, anybody who you are in a relationship with that you worry may lie in the future. Just pay close attention to any particular body language or facial articulation they make when you know they are lying.

This, of course, requires you let a few lies slip by unchecked, but what they are doing is giving away their “tells,” as they say in cards. Tells are unconscious body movements and facial tics that card players show when they are bluffing. After you have three or four “tells” collected, they’ll by no means be able to lie to you again without you knowing it.
